HR 101: US DOL Wage & Hour Division (WHD) – Who We Are and What We Do
We will review WHD’s role and give a brief overview of the laws that we enforce, as well as our investigative process. At the end of the presentation, employers should be able to
- Name the Federal labor laws WHD enforces, with emphasis on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- Understand the general principals and requirements of the FLSA, and what they need to do to be in compliance
- Explain how WHD uses it’s investigative process to determine compliance, and
where to go for additional guidance and resources
About the Speaker:
Kyle started his Wage & Hour career in 2014 as a Wage & Hour Investigator in the SLC District Office. As an investigator, Kyle worked on numerous high-profile cases in the oil & gas, restaurant, construction, and home health care industries. He has led project investigations on several large Davis Bacon Act HUD and DOT projects, as well as presenting at many pre-construction, FMLA, and home health care outreach events throughout his career. He was the recipient of the Southwest Region’s Regional Administrator Award in 2021.
Kyle retired from the US Air Force and Utah Air National Guard, serving for 26 ½ years prior to coming to Wage & Hour. Most of his career was spent in the logistics career field (planning, supply, transportation), but prior to retiring he served as Squadron First Sergeant, and was later selected as Wing Command Chief, spending his last four years as part of the Wing Commander’s staff.
